Meet dr. Rafael Perini

Dr. Rafael Perini is a gastroenterologist and therapeutic endoscopist specializing in pancreas and biliary tract diseases. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia and a Fellow of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine.

 Dr. Perini was born in Brazil. After obtaining his medical degree, he returned to his hometown Goiania for Internal Medicine and obtained his Gastroenterology training at the Universidade Federal de Goias. In 2000 he joined the Medical University of South Carolina for a Research Fellowship, where his research focused on ERCP complications, including bleeding and pancreatitis. He was also responsible for developing an Endoscopy Image Atlas. He moved to Calgary to pursue further training in Therapeutic Endoscopy at the University of Calgary. His Post-Doctoral fellowship involved investigating the role of platelets in supporting gastric mucosal healing. He also completed an Internal Medicine residency and Gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Calgary. While in Calgary, he and his wife Milena became Canadian Citizens and welcomed two new additions to their family: Isabella and Luca. After completing a position at the University of Arizona, Dr. Perini returned to Canada in 2010 and joined the gastroenterologists and fantastic team of staff in Kelowna.
